Alsking pa vift (1964) Swedish film
Bjorn Ulvaeus and the Hootenanny's appeared in this Swedish comedy as singers..ABBF record service
has this movie available on VHS tape...
ÅSA -NISSE I RAKETFROM (1966) Swedish film
Bjorn Ulvaeus and the Hootenanny's appeared in this August 1966 movie. They sang one song- "Vid Roines Strand" ..There was actually a whole series of ÅSA
-NISSE movies.
HABARI SAFARI-A never finished 1967 movie self-produced by Benny's 1960's group
-the Hep Stars .It was hoped that a Hep Stars trip to Africa and a a couple of weeks in a film
studio would produce enough suitable material for a movie-it only ended putting the Hep Stars deeper
in the hole financially. One Hep Stars song emerged from the project the African style folk single
"Malaika".. Remarkably, Lasse Hallstrom, later the director of ABBA -The movie , worked a little on
this particular project-though not as a director...
Åsa-Nisse och den stora Kalabaliken 1968 Swedish film (Åsa-Nisse and the Big Chaos)
Another film in the amazing Åsa-Nisse saga, This film was directed by Arne stivell. Benny Andersson and the Hep Stars appeared
in this this film in two scenes. they performed two songs "It's Been A Long Long Time" and "Sagan om lilla Sofi".
The Langugage of Love ("Kärlekens språk") 1969. Swedish film

SEDUCTION OF INGA (known in Swedish as Någon att älska ) 1971 Swedish/American film
Bjorn and Benny wrote some music in late 1969 for this soft-porn film that was not released
till 1971. The film was directed by Joseph W. Sarno. The film was a Swedish/American production.
The hard-to find Bjorn and Benny track "Inga Theme" was the main instrumental theme used. "She's My Kind of Girl"
is also featured. Although this movie can be obained on DVD it's not really worth the effort. The DVD contains
a recently made video of BB's "Inga Theme".... The movie stars Marie Liljedahl as Inga . The DVD supposedly
includes the other film in this series as well...
Ture Sventon - Privatdetektiv 1972 Swedish film...
Bjorn and Benny (and Stig) wrote Jag Är Blott En Man for this movie...The movie starred
Jarl Kulle, who also performed Jag Är Blott En Man. The song is on the deluxe edition of the RING RING album. Ture Sventon was remade as a Swedish Tv -movie
in the 1980's...

ABBA-THE MOVIE released 1977 Swedish /Australian film. First released internationally on on VHS/Beta
in 1982. International 2005 DVD Release |
|
The key ABBA video artifact. It was out of print in most places till it came out
in 2005 on DVD.... The movie features ABBA at their live peak as well as a thin, but uncomplicated story featuring an
Australian Dj,. The dj was played by actor, Robert Hughes. Filmed during their the Australian leg of their 1977 tour, some
of the indoor scenes were filmed in Sweden...The live music is energetic, though much of the vocals were rerecorded
in the studio.. Directed by Lasse Hallstrom later known for feature films such "My life as A Dog" and "The Cider House
Rules".
ABBA-The Movie 2DVD set September 2005 release

THANK YOU ABBA 1994 French video ..Available.
One of the first historical video documentaries about ABBA. This was directed by French ABBA chronicler Jean-Marie Potiez (author of ABBA-THE BOOK-) The video is only an hour and is kind of marred
by some bizarre cross-cuts between the interviews and the songs. Like ABBA-THE BOOK,The English
narration is also badly translated. No new interviews with ABBA members are featured but there are interviews with
Michael B. Tretow, Stig Anderson , Rune Soderqvist and Owe Sundstrom. Owe's interview is the most interesting
.Stig looks very aged and weary even though he still had three years to live. Among the more fascinating
footage are four pre- ABBA's solo songs-(Att Älka Varens Tid, Sunny Girl, Baby Those Are The Rules, Nu Skall Vi Opp Opp Opp)
from the 1960's There is considerable footage from then hard- to -get -ABBA-The Movie.
MORE ABBA GOLD 1994 Internationally released video.
More official promotional clip videos, including the then hard to find and cleverly executed
"When I kissed The Teacher" story video which was originally made for a TV special. Many, but not all of the songs
found on the MORE ABBA GOLD CD are found here in video form.
Summer Night City, The Day Before You Came, Eagle, I do I do I do I do I do, On And On And On, Head
Over Heels, When I Kissed The Teacher, Under Attack, When All Is Said And Done, Bang-A-Boomerang, One Man One Woman, That's
Me, Happy New Year
Nu är pappa trött igen! (Father Isn't Feeling Well)(1996)
This project features Benny's songs "PS" and "Cirkus Finemang". Another Marie-Louise
Ekman project. These two songs can be found on Benny's most recent solo
album-Benny Andersson's Orkester.
PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT 1994 Australian film, Available internationally
This dramatic comedy about a intinerent troop of Austrailian drag
queens is a charming film that incorporates the music of ABBA. At one point the drag queens perform an ABBA song. There is
also a bizarre discussion about Agnetha....The music of ABBA plays a slightly lesser role than it does in Muriel's
Wedding.

MURIEL's WEDDING 1994 Australian film Available internationally
This music of ABBA is intregal to this movie. The main character of Muriel played
by Toni Collette is among other things an ABBA fan, and at least four ABBA songs are featured in
the movie.. "Fernando" , " Waterloo", "Mamma Mia", and "I do I do I do" .ABBA is not entirely portrayed in a positive
light. The movie sort of implies that losers listen to ABBA. Rachel Griffiths gives a standout performance as Toni. The soundtrack
to this movie was released in 1995 in most places....

ESSENTIAL STOCKHOLM 1998 Australian Video release
This is a remarkably detailed video put together by an Australian production company-Northern Lights,This is largely a travel video-that shows every conceivable ABBA related place in the Stockholm area. The video also works simply as a video travel guide to Stockholm. I wish I had this video before I went to Stockholm.!
The video is narrated by an Australian fan and features an interview with Michael B. Tretow. Whoever
researched this knew a lot about ABBA. The video is extremely well researched and presented . Like
many travel videos this can be a little dull...However the video is spiced up by the inclusion of lots of ABBA footage-much
of rare and obscure.
Among the rare footage is Frida's first tv performance -"En ledig dag 'and a rare Agnetha live performance of "Dom har glömt " .
This video is available from the ABBF Record Service.
UNDER SOLEN ( Under the Sun) 1998 Swedish Movie.

THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL Late 1999 Swedish/British video production . InternationalTv special /VHS/DVD (released on DVD
July 2002)
Chris Hunt's intelligent TV documentary was produced with the cooperation of the members of ABBA and
thus features some surprisingly candid exclusive interviews with Frida, Benny and Bjorn. As a whole
the documentary is quite good-though one could do without some of the reverent testimonials. One also could do with less promotional
material for the musical- MAMMA Mia. Another disappointment is Agnetha's appearances which are merely her reading from her
biography-"As I Am". The documentary includes snippets of a number of rare ABBA tracks and performances.
There are number of interesting moments on this special but my favorite is when they show an aerial
view of the Stockholm Archiplego coupled with an instrumental piano solo by Benny.
This was released throughout the world as a broadcast TV documentary. Interestingly, different edits
were used in different countries. This documentary is available on VHS video in most places and on DVD in some places.
This documentary was used as the basis for the 2004 Super Troupers documentary..
Sånger från andra våningen Songs from the Second Floor (2000) Danish-Norwegain film. Availabel on
DVD
This may be the best ABBA related film, but it is a quirky one, and not for all tastes. Directed
by Roy Andersson (no relation to Benny, this is fairly interesting, and adventurous film that focus on the dreamlike goings
on one day or so in a very surreal place.
Most of Benny's music here is preety subtle, except for a choral number where
most of the actors on the screen all of sudden appear to be singing... It's one of the best moments in the film.
The fact that Benny found yet another quirky project to be involved reminds us that he tends to be
the more artistic half of the Bjorn and Benny creative combine.
Sadly, there is not a soundtrack album but there has been three song promtional
EP released of Benny's music. Five of the songs Benny wrote for the movie appear on his two most recent albums , though
these seem to be new versions done with Benny's orchestra. Sång Från Andra Våningen"
, "Lauren ", and "Tösabiten" are found on Benny Andersson's Orkester and "Saknadens Rum " and "Kärlekens tid 'are from BAO. Supposedly bits of pieces of some these melodies
were recycled in CHESS PA SVENKSKA.
TILSAMMANS 2000 Swedish film (titled TOGETHER on the English language version DVD)
This charming comedy movie is set in a 1975 Swedish commune features ABBA's "SOS". It also
features a couple of songs by ABBA protege, Ted Gardestad. This film is directed by Lukas Moodyson.
PUDER (Powder ) 2001 Swedish film not on DVD as of yet.
Another obscure film by Marie- Louise Ekman. This is a 90 minute farce is about the
goings on of a theatre company that has been forced to make a commercial. Benny Andersson wrote some music for the film-two
tracks of which were released on a promotional CD ."Teater Krokodil' is a choral piece which
has lyics by Marie- Louise Ekman. The second track is an instrumental which is simply titled 'Puder'.

Another movie with a ABBA song on the soundtrack-in this case "Does

Surprisingly,Chess Pa Svenska was actually taped for this DVD. Which is great of course, there
is even a bonus DVD with a documentary about the musical. The main drawback is that there are no subtitles for those people
who don't speak Swedish...

40. ABBA In Concert DVD edition International release. March 2004
This is a documentary of the 1979 ABBA tour of North America & Europe directed by Swedish TV pro -Urban Lasson. It
mostly features musical segments from the concerts, but also documents life on the road for ABBA as well as a seemingly endless
series of segments with roller skaters.....It has been shown before on TV (back in 1980) and been out on video, but had not
been available recently... The main body of the original TV special included twelve songs- all but one of which could found
in original studio versions on either the Greatest Hits Volume 2 or Voulez-Vous. Some Fans have objected that the performances
of the songs are edited-but while not complete most the song segments are relativley long. Apparently, the camera did not
actually film complete shows-so in many cases the songs were not filmed in their entirety. A few of the songs benefit from
live presentation notably -"Summer Night City" and "I Have A dream" wheras some of ABBA's best songs -"Waterloo", "Dancing
Queen" , and "Knowing Me, Knowing You" do not come off as well in live performances. .. This DVD new version features two
songs not included on the original home video-The Way Old Friends Do and Thank You For The Music, as well as the full version
of "I have A Dream" which was widely used previously as the official promo clip for that song.../. "The Way Old Friends DO"
is easily the best moment of the film and seems strange that if was left out of some of the 1979-1980 versions of the TV special
as,well on off the original home video released in 1980. This performance orginates from 1979 ABBA's concerts' at London's
Wembley Stadium in one of the last important concert of their careers..(though they did not know it at time.) The song features
Benny on accordion and the all the group singing. It almost borders on spontaniety, almost seems genuinely emotional , both
of which were qualities in short supply for ABBA when performing live...At one point Lasson chooses a great back shot of the
group which really gives one a sense that yes, we are looking at music legends.... I think that in general that Lasson did
a good job on this special.. Some listeners have complained about the sound quality, which I cant comment on because i have
not heard the DVD in 5.1 sound but I didnt really notice bad sound quality... The DVD features informative Interviews with
ABBA's tour promoter, Thomas Johannson, and the film's director Urban Lasson and a Fully illustrated booklet with an essay
by Carl Magnum Palm.. . This is the first time this title has been released on DVD.

has four TV performances including the Waterloo as perfomed at the Eurovision song contest.

ABBA-Our Last Video- July 2004 International DVD/video release
ABBA thought to have some minor reunion to mark the 30th anniversary of their Eurovision breakthough.
A near reunion nearly occured at the fifth anniversary performance of Mammia Mia in London's West End. It was hoped that Agnetha
might induced to come out of hiding due to the need to promote her album. Instead only Bjorn , Benny and Frida showed up,
on stage in a semi-reunion. Frida had attended performances before but had never gotten up on stage with B&B before....
Luckily, all four members of ABBA finally agreed to appear briefly and separately in
a short but clever and entertaining video clip broadcast during the 2004 Eurovision song contest..The video features ABBA
puppets and ABBA song references, The DVD features the video , a making of the video segment, and some of the full original
ABBA videos that were mentioned in the "OUR FINAL VIDEO." The video is cute and clever but it does seem almost like ABBA should
have not bothered to tease us with such a limited reunion....
DVD Contains forty minutes of exciting videos-ooh what a a bargain....

ABBA- SUPER TROUPERS documentary International Release September 2004 The thing is subtitled " A Celebratory Film from Waterloo to MAMMA MIA! 30 years of
music" !!!!!!!!
A fascinating TV documentary of ABBA narrated by record producer Pete Waterman which includes material about Mamma
Mia fifth anniversary ... Much of the material is rehashed from the THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL documentary , it uses some of
the same interviews created for that...though instead of segments about Mamma Mia's 1999 premiere we get material about
three ABBA members appearing at the fifth anniversary of MAMMA MIA...ABBA's history is told in a rather haphazard, and
incomplete way, but this video does offer lots of up close and personal moments with all four ABBA members including new interviews
with Bjorn, Frida and most amazingly Agnetha who speaks in both English and Swedish... Chapter titles follow...This
documentary is a little too heavy on clips that be found on other ABBA DVD's...

commentary/narration and comes off like an overbearing, perhaps inebriated, relative who's far too loud and won't shut up". |

at the Vulkanhalle in Cologne, Germany.
Ex-Deep Purple member Lord plays keyboards and

also on the Beyond the Notes CD

Vinnare och förlorare Swedish movie January 2005
A Swedish comedy directed by Kjell Sundvall that
stars Daniel Gustavsson.
For some reason, This movie features Frida's 1971
Swedish version of “Can't Take My Eyes Off of You”...
ABBA-THE MOVIE- 2DVD set September 2005 release , Also released in single DVD version. This will
be playable on Pal and NCPS.
Finally a re-release of ABBA-The Movie. ABBA's 1977 cinema theatre release. It had never
been released on DVD .Prior to 2005 the movie had also been out of print on VHS.
The Movie (if you didn't know) is largely a concert
film with an amusing if thin story about a Australian DJ trying to interview ABBA. The film is directed by Lasse Hallström.
Lasse was the director of most of ABBA's videos and would later go on to direct My Life is a Dog,
Cider House Rules and many other films. There are two versions of the movie. The single dvd version
has no extras. The 2 DVD version has the film on one disc and bonus features on the second disc. The bonus features are
an interview about the film with Lasse Hallström, Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, the original ABBA - The Movie trailers;
an ABBA - The Album TV commercial and a picture gallery. Apparently, there were no live outtakes available. Fan
experts complain that there is more material that could have be included , for example more documentary material
about the Australian tour...
American fans had to wait for a a copy since apparently the DVD release in the Usa was delayed
due to a legal dispute between Universal and Warner over who has the right to issue the DVD...Warner had tried to release
ABBA-The movie on DVD in the USA,but Universal had objected....
ABBA-Music in Review 2DVD Set Uk DVD October 2005 released internationally
Somehow, Classic Rock Legends was allowed to make this DVD which includes some licensed ABBA TV appearances
from the BBC, Musikladen etc interspersed with inane interviews from "experts"..... (" a leading team of music critics among
them members of "Bjorn Again" ) The video has a 48 page booklet as well...I havent seen it, but people have
given it mixed reviews due to the low quality of the clips and the experts chosen,,,
ABBA-The Complete Studio Recordings 9CD/2DVD Planned Release November 7, 2005
Following the example of last year's Japanese box set, Polar /Universal have put together a new "complete' box set. This
is the first internationally released box set to compile all of ABBA's studio albums... The audio component features most
of ABBA's released recordings including all eight studio albums, b-sides, foreign language recordings, most alternate mixes
as well as the rarities that were released after ABBA broke up... The set has two tracks new to Cd- the mono mix of "ON and
On And On" previously heard only on videos, and alternative mix of Waterloo...This set is the first to include Spanish versions
as bonus tracks on every one of the eight studio albums. The major exclusion here is of course, ABBA's live album and
the half or dozen other officially released live tracks..But they are not "STUDIO' recordings. Naturally, unreleased
studio recordings (like the full version of "Just Like That " or "Nationsang' ) have been not included here either..
Nor does one find private releases like "Sang to Gorel', "Fanfare for a Ice Hockey Championship". The DVD set
features basically a repackaged version of THE DEFINITIVE CollectionDVD set on the first DVD. the recent
"OUR LAST VIDEO' puppet video is included as a bonus. The DVD's in this release apparently are being made in a NTSC
format that is playable in region 0...
A history of ABBA originally found on the ABBA GOLD DVD and a short version of the 1981 DICK CAVETT TV special concert
is on the second DVD. There have been complaints from fans that the Dick Cavett segment only has five of the originally
aired nine songs-Supposedly, they can not find the other four songs in the Swedish Tv archives. Annoyingly, this
will be llimited edition release...So it wont be around forever...

Drawing on rare Abba performances from TV and film archives around the world, this is the first ever independent film review

2008 Film version of Mamma Mia, the musical
This was filmed in Greece in 2007 and was released in 2008.
Meryl Streep stars with Pierce Brosnan.
Original Soundtrack Recording, Mamma Mia-Decca label 177 418-4, International CD, July 7, 2008
The
movie soundtrack album was released in the summer, slightly before the release of the movie. The CD was released in Sweden
and the UK on July 7, 2008 (and in the US on July 8, 2008). This album actually went to #1 in the USA, and in many other places.
The movie soundtrack was actually more successful than the musical's original cast album, which has tended to sell at a slower
pace in most of the markets it had been released. The soundtrack has sold over 4,000,000 physical copies worldwide including
nearly 1,800.000 copies in the USA.
The music was recorded before the movie was filmed with the vocals sung by the
original actors in the movie. On occasion, the actors also sang “live” during filming. The musical backing tracks
were newly recorded in February 2007 by Benny Andersson with the help of three veterans of the original ABBA band (Rutger
Gunnarsson on bass, Lasse Wellander on guitar, Per Lindvall on drums. An orchestra was used for parts of the backing track,
and the chorus parts for the vocal tracks were recorded by the Stockholm ensemble cast of Mamma Mia. Two songs that were in
the original musical are not sung in the movie- "Under Attack" and "Knowing Me, Knowing You". "Knowing Me, Knowing You "has
been replaced by "When All is Said And Done'. Due to time constraints , the following songs are not included in the soundtrack
album track listing -Overture / Prologue, Chiquitita, Entr'Act, One Of Us, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, and Waterloo.
The
main drawback of the album is that so many of the performers are actors first not singers, and so most of the lead vocals
are underwhelming. The vocal performances do have the kind of character that actors can instill, that sometimes singers can
not.
.Of course, even the best singers are not likely to improve on Frida or Agnetha's vocals, so instead the best
approach appears to be try something slightly different and that's what is sometimes tried here.
Originally there
was also supposed to be a special two-disc version of the soundtrack. The two disc version was to have included instrumental
versions of songs that underscore the action in the movie, the end credits medley and god knows what else, but this idea never
came to fruition, perhaps simply due to quality control concerns.
Track listing- 1. Honey, Honey (Amanda Seyfried,
Ashley Lilley & Rachel McDowall) 2. Money, Money, Money (Meryl Streep, Julie Walters & Christine Baranski) 3.
Mamma Mia (Meryl Streep) 4. Dancing Queen (Meryl Streep, Julie Walters & Christine Baranski) 5. Our Last Summer

Cooper & Amanda Seyfried) 7. Super Trouper (Meryl Streep, Julie Walters & Christine Baranski) 8. Gimme! Gimme!
Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) (Amanda Seyfried, Ashley Lilley & Rachel McDowall) 9. The Name of the Game (Amanda Seyfried) 10.
Voulez-Vous (Full cast, Philip Michael, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters & Stellan Skarsgǻrd) 11. SOS (Pierce
Brosnan & Meryl Streep) 12. Does Your Mother Know (Christine Baranski & Philip Michael) 13. Slipping Through
My Fingers (Meryl Streep & Amanda Seyfried) 14. The Winner Takes It All (Meryl Streep) 15. When All is Said and
Done (Pierce Brosnan & Meryl Streep) 16. Take a Chance on Me (Julie Walters, Stellan Skarsgǻrd, Colin Firth, Philip

You, the Living (Du Levande) Roy Andersson 2007 Sweden/Germany/France/Denmark/Norway,90 Released on DVD in Sweden
May 2008. UK DVD release planned for July 2008
Another dark comedy by Swedish director, Roy Andersson, who also directed Songs from The Second Floor.
Benny Andersson is credited as a composer of the music to this film, but only one of Benny's songs was used-a BAO
style instrumental called "Pulsation"., that was said to be leftover for Songs from the Second Floor
.Apparently, it was Benny was to busy with his work on the Mamma Mia soundtrack to do more cues for
this film. The rest of music is also similiar in style to BAO music.
The film itself is as enjoyable as Songs from the Second Floor, though perhaps less effecting. This
film stars : Jessica Lundberg, Elisabet Helander, and Björn Englund.

Chess-In Concert, International release DVD , June 16, 2009 Released in September 2009 in UK.
Recorded live at Royal Albert Hall, London, May 12-13, 2008 There is also a single CD and 2CD version
which were released both in the United States and Europe. This concert version stars Josh Groban and was taped a full year
before it's release. This is yet another reworking of the ever changing Andersson-Rice-Ulvaeus musical. Most of the content
on this DVD premiered on Amerca's PBS TV during pledge week.
This time, Tim Rice took the lead on
the redo duties. Bjorn and Benny did not get directly involved with this concert ,though perhaps they had a veto, if they
did not like the project as a whole. This record is an attempt to issue a fairly complete version of the musical, based generally
on the original London staging. Somewhat annoyingly, Tim Rice has once again changed a few lyrics. On the plus side, you get
to hear a few of the songs that were written long ago, which had not been available on any recording of CHESS (other then
a temporary release on the original version of the Danish Version of Chess) the songs are “Commie newspapers”,”
Press conference”, “Global TV fanfare”, “Talking Chess” and “The Interview”. These
are not great songs, but it’s still nice to have them. Most of the songs found only on the American Broadway staging
did not make it on this recording, but otherwise this concert is really complete Chess score.
The DVD was
filmed live, and as a result many of the performances sound a little shaky. Another problem for me with any re-recording
or theatrical staging of Chess is losing out on getting Benny Andersson and the ABBA band play the music as it meant to be
played.
Performers include Idina Menzel, Adam Pascal, David Bedella, Kerry Ellis, Clarke Peters, Marti Pellow ; The City
of London Philharmonic ; The West End Chorus ; arranged and orchestrated by Anders Eljas ; David Firman, conductor, musical
supervisor. Liner notes by Tim Rice and synopsis in container.

ABBA-The Definitive ABBA, Komet KOM3341, UK 4DVD March 1, 2010
This is an unauthorized 4DVD
set that compiles three previously released documentaries, including one about the Arrival Album ,one that
covers the Visitors, as well as the two disc "Rock case study" career retrospective (that's the one that
features John Tobler and the Rod Leissle from Bjorn Again.) None of this is very informative or interesting.
ABBA-Voulez-Vous-Deluxe Edition, Universal, 1CD/IDVD, Planned Release May 31, 2010
The long awaited
deluxe version of Voulez-Vous finally came out on May 31, 2010. Although no totally new tracks are included, the version
of "Dreamworld" included on this release is the full version without fade-in, as a master tape containing the full version
was recently discovered. The most obvious omissions are the Spanish versions of "I Have a Dream" and "Chiquitita". Not
surprisingly, None of 1978/1979 rarities found on "ABBA undeleted" are included here. So that means no full versions of "Just
A Notion", "Rubber Ball Man" etc.
The Voulez-Vous Deluxe Edition expands the original album with five Voulez-Vous
era bonus tracks, as well as a DVD featuring television performances and interviews related to Voulez-Vous. As with the previous
deluxe editions, the DVD is more interesting than the CD. The key feature on the DVD is the debut of the entire ABBA in Switzerland
TV special. It's not paticularly well remastered, but it is nice to have. This reissue is about a year late, but Universal
wanted to give priority to the totally new ABBA in Japan DVD.
