I djupa andetag"

Frida-Djupa Andetag, Anderson AND 1, September 1996 Swedish CD
This is one of the best of Frida and Agnetha's solo albums. Buy this album before you waste any money on tripe like WRAP YOUR ARMS AROUND ME or rehashes like ABBA GOLD the zillioneth edition
The title means Deep Breath. It's doubtful
that many buyers of ABBA GOLD have this album. DJUPA ANDETAG was
recorded in Swedish for the Swedish market. It came 12 years after
SHINE, Frida's previous solo album. The songs on the album were
largely written and produced by Anders Glenmark, but DJUPA ANDETAG
still manages to sound like a Frida album. Most of the songs were
written with Frida in mind. Frida has always had the gift of making
other songwriters work her own. Although all the lyrics on this
album are in Swedish , this albums' grit, sincerity and freshness
can be easily gleaned even by those who can't speak Swedish...
When people do hear this they are taken aback for a minute. You
don't really expect rock era singers to be doing what seems to
be their best work at age 50. Of course, it's possible that had
Frida not met Benny that she would have been a jazz/pop singer
all her life (Jazz singers after all do good work at age 50).
But anyway...
All the tracks here are good, but "Aven en Blomma" (Even a Flower) ', and dark opening track-Älska mig alltid " stand out in particular. The tracks here are so natural and personal sounding that "Alla mina bästa Ar"( a great duet between Frida and Roxette's Marie Fredericksson) ) seems almost gimmicky . Apparently, Frida originally asked Agnetha to record "Alla Mina Basta Ar" with her but Aggie declined because of her quite justified fear of ABBA reunion rumors.
Fred Johanson provides some cool backing
vocals on his melody-"Vem kommer såra vem ikväll"
. "Vem kommer såra vem ikväll" like many
of the songs on the album also features some distinctive background
strings played by Synko . Frida wrote the lyrics for this albums'
energetic closer -for once Frida closes an album on a uptempo
song- "Kvinnor som Springor".
Swedish singer/songwriter and ABBA sideman Anders Glenmark (of Gemini fame) produced the album ,sang and played on it , and he wrote most of the music & lyrics. His vocals touches (such as the Ay-Ay at the beginning of "Ogonen' ) fit in surprisingly well, The keyboards are well-done and set the tone for most of the songs. As enjoyable as Anders Glenmark's work in English may be-it's obvious he's even better in Swedish.
The albums' cover design by Kent Nyberg is refreshing and the
back cover photo of Frida by Carl Bengstson is haunting. This
album was recorded at Polar Music for Anderson Records by Lennart
Ostlund. The CD includes a not so easy to access interactive Cd-rom
component.
Other views- excerpts from a published review of Djupa andetag |
The Djupa andetag album was expertly performed ,carefully produced..and perhaps a littl dull ... no one could begrudge Frida her inner harmony, but a whole album worth of tributes to finding love...didn't make for an especially varied listening experience.- Carl Magnus Palm writing in BRIGHT LIGHTS , DARK SHADOWS.... |

This CD features 7 remixes taken from the CD singles of four songs originally available on DJUPA ANDETAG.
This CD has a lovely blue cover. with a portrait of Frida's face. Alternate remixes of "Alla mina bästa år" , "Ögonen " "Även en blomma " and " Alla mina bästa år" are included. These mixes mainly came orignally from CD singles It's Not essential, but cool to have if you love the Djupa antetag album.
Unusually, for ABBA swedish language solo record this album actually has English translations of the the four songs included in CD liner notes....
By the time, this CD was released Frida had again lowered her profile partly because of the unfortunate death of her daughter Liselott in a travel accident in America.
