ABBA-THE Definitive COLLECTION October 2001 Worldwide CD release
Intended by Universal as it's definitive worldwide 2 disc ABBA complimation.
The focus here is on ABBA's A sides. No non- hit songs are included. The songs choices thus are pretty straight-forward...
Since virtually all of ABBA's A -sides are included this is a more chronologically balanced compilation than the one CD disc -ABBA Gold. This CD set is also more attractively and intelligently packaged.
All the tracks have been previously released on CD with exception of two. Firstly, the heavy 1974 US remix of "Ring Ring" and the extended US Dance remix of "Voulez-Vous". This set features liner notes by Carl Magnus Palm. The booklet is Ok, but not that interesting, It's hard to rewrite the same set of facts over and over again....Though a chart of songtimes, recording dates etc might have been useful...
In 2002, the Australians issued a new version of this album with two more bonus tracks.
In 2003, this album was chosen as one of the top 500 albums of the rock era ,by Rolling Stone magazine, it was the only ABBA album chosen. That they chose this album instead of ABBA Gold is quite reassuring !
