John Bernhardt & ABBA-The Albums presents....ABBA -THE SCROLL PART 2!!!!

ABBA PART TWO (1983-2006) Reviews of ABBA Albums released by ABBA after the Group was no longer recording together...

Includes all studio albums and most of the numerous official compilation albums released throughout the world....also DVD's!!! Sorry bootlegs are not included-what follows are shorter reviews of nearly every album ABBA has released officially worldwide...More important ABBA albums (listed in italics) are covered more fully in their own pages...Albums are listed by era...As always.Your mileage may vary....

ABBA (1983-1989) compilations , reissues and ABBA Live

ABBA in the 1990's ABBA GOLD etc.

 ABBA in the 2000's-

ABBA (1983-1989) compilations , reissues and ABBA Live.

ABBA was forgotten about by some in the 1980's and reissues released during this time were only moderately successful.

ABBA -Singles Collection (1972-1982) International Singles of ABBA. 28 -45rpm singles 1983?

This is a collection of vinyl singles released in Germany. Some picture vinyl discs were included as well as some foreign language singles. This is similiar to the CD version of this released in 1999.

Various Artists-Antligen Sommarlov! 1983 Swedish Lp

This Swedish market only compilation album features the only appearance of the 1979 live recording of "Summer Night City". The live recording is good as or better than the original released single of "Summer Night City". This album also features the first solo track ever released by Benny . (It's a non-live rendition of "Den Blomstertid Nu Kommer".)

ABBA-Golden Hits 1983 Brazil lp

The folks at Somlivre were back with another ABBA compilation-there was dancing in the streets in Rio that year....

ABBA-THE LOVE SONGS 1983 South Africa lp

Yet another variation on the ABBA 'love song" theme album that would dominate ABBA releases in 1983-4. Most of these albums tried to include a b-side or two. In this case -"Cassandra was chosen. In 1989 the same title would be used for a British compilation with a different track listing....

Cassandra One Man, One Woman /
The Winner Takes It All /My Love My Life
Andante Andante /One Of Us/ The Day Before You Came/
. I've Been Waiting For You/Move On
I Have A Dream/Slipping Through My Fingers
Happy New Year

ABBA-Thank You For The Music ( A COLLECTION OF LOVE SONGS) Late Fall 1983 Uk lp

This one disc compilation was released in U.K. It reached #17 thus, It broke up ABBA's record tying string of eight #1 albums in the U.K. that had spanned from 1976's GREATEST HITS to 1982 THE SINGLES -THE FIRST TEN YEARS. This album focuses mainly on ballad/softer numbers. The 1981 b-side "Should I Laugh Or Cry "made it's debut as a UK album track here.

That ABBA's UK label, EPIC was already putting out questionable compilations like this one ,was a sign that they were not expecting there to be any second "Ten Years' ! To help promote this album a single was released of "Thank You For
The Music." in the UK, It didnt work
!

My Love, My Life/I Wonder (Departure) Happy New YearNew Year/ Slipping Through My Fingers Fernando (Spanish version) /One Man, One Woman/ Eagle I Have A Dream\ Our Last Summer\ The Day Before You Came\. Chiquitita\. Should I Laugh Or Cry\ The Way Old Friends Do
\ Thank You For The Music

ABBA -the first round of CD issues of ABBA material 1980's

Compact Discs were not commercially
available till 1982. The first ABBA
Cd's to be made available in Great Britain and West Germany were
SUPER TROUPER, THE VISITORS and THE SINGLES (2CD set). These were issued in 1983 in the UK by EPIC. Other ABBA albums followed...

Germany's Polydor manufactured most of the early ABBA Cd's. (In the early 1980's there were only a small number of CD production plants in the whole world! ).By 1992 all of ABBA's studio albums had been issued on CD in Great Britain and in much of the world.
ABBA LIVE also was made available on CD as well. ( belatedly, in Great Britain). The RING RING album. which had never been issued on Lp in most places, was made available in most markets on CD by the early 1990's.

A handful of Cd ABBA singles were released starting with a four track single of "Lay All Your Love On ME" in Germany.

During the 1970's and 1980's the rights to
issue ABBA records had been licensed by Polar Music International to a smorgasbord of different labels throughout the world.
In the early 1990's, ABBA's manager Stig Anderson sold Polar and the worldwide rights for the ABBA Catalog to Polygram.

According to one not very helpful source, THE NAME OF THE GAME book ,the price for the ABBA record catalog was considerably "more than the price of a sandwich" .

A more reliable source- Carl Magnus Palm said the actual price was 300 million krona-or only about 30 to 40 million dollars, a sum that the new label would soon earn back. The new owners would subject the ABBA catalog to series of reissues in the early 1990's, centering on ABBA GOLD, the first internationally available single CD compilation covering ABBA's entire career....

In 1999, Polydor, Polygram, Polycrap whoever the hell they are... was bought by Universal (see also the entry on ABBA-the Cd remasters)-and so the all of ABBA's subsequent remasters had the Universal imprint.

ABBA-the American CD reissue program, Part One (1983-1995)

Not surprisingly, those darned Americans were somewhat tardy in issuing the ABBA catalogue on CD. ABBA's American label, Atlantic was kind of enough to issue GREATEST HITS,GREATEST HITS II and SUPER TROUPER on CD during the mid 1980's. But, none of the other seven ABBA studio albums were released on CD by Atlantic, not even ABBA LIVE , was released on CD even though it was intially issued well after the widespread emergence of CD's.

By the early 1990's all three of Atlantic's ABBA CD's were out of print. for a time ,the only ABBA Cd's available were those made by Erasure! At one point even, ABBA placed in the top ten in a Billboard poll asking people which artists catalog they thought should be reissued on CD. The fact that Atlantic's right to ABBA's catalogue were due to expire may partly explain why Atlantic was hesitant to reissue the albums.

Polydor, the second owners of the ABBA catalogue in America d also ragged their feet at first when issuing American ABBA Cd's.

In the USA, ABBA gold, More ABBA Gold and The Box Set,were all released well after their European issuence. But, the success of ABBA Gold proved there was still a market for ABBA even in America. This led to the rest of ABBA's studio albums finally being released in America on Cd during 1995. Of course, by this time the hardcore fan already had bought import copies.

ABBA-The Story of ABBA 1984? Canadian Lp

This is a K-Tel mail order 16 song Lp... Similiar to the US release, THE MAGIC of ABBA , but in a new Canadian version with a updated track listing but the same cover photo..

ABBA-The Best of ABBA 1984? Canadian Lp

Another Canadian best of compilation....and I'll be honest-all these albums titled "best of ABBA" are beginning to confuse me..

ABBA -Anniversary Collection (1972-1982) 26 singles 1984 This is a collection of vinyl singles released in the Uk, similiar to the 1983 West German singles box.

ABBA-I LOVE ABBA 1984 American/European LP

The American version of this album has to have one of the more bizarre covers ever created for a ABBA record. For some reason, ABBA's American label (Atlantic) chose to a have a drawing of a heart shaped vinyl album grace the cover of this collection. The songs selected were basically love songs (or more accurately softer numbers).
This album did have one saving grace, it marked the album debuts in America for the b-sides "Should I Laugh Or Cry' and "Cassandra". This album was released in March 1984 and disappeared without a trace. This album was ABBA's first Atlantic release not to make the TOP 200 chart.

A similiar version of this album(with a better cover),and different track lisitings appeared in the German (Reached #11), French and other markets during 1984.

The French and German versions of this album had solo tracks by Agnetha & Frida.

1. Cassandra 8. I Have A Dream
2. The Name Of The Game edit 9. My Love, My Life
3. Should I Laugh Or Cry 10. I Wonder (Departure)
4. Our Last Summer 11. One Man, One Woman
5. I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do 12. Slipping Through My Fingers
6. Chiquitita edit 13. Fernando
7. Andante, Andante 14. Eagle edit

ABBA-LOVE SONGS, A VERY SPECIAL COLLECTION 1984 Canada LP

The Canadians went with a sickly pink cover for their love collection... The Canucks included15 tracks -amongst them the b-sides -"Cassandra" and "Should I Laugh Or Cry". Unlike some of the other other love albums, there are not any solo tracks...

ABBA -HITS! HITS! HITS! Fall 1984 Austrailian LP

The love collection with a different name, but the Aussies were too jaded to call this a Love album-instead it was a hit collection with a somewhat more conventional track listing. They did however throw in the rare b-side "Cassandra" and one solo track each by Agnetha & Frida.

1. I Know There's Something Going On edit - Frida 8. The Heat Is On - Agnetha
2. Dancing Queen 9. Mamma Mia
3. Does Your Mother Know 10. Fernando
4. The Winner Takes It All 11. Cassandra
5. Money, Money, Money 12. The Name Of The Game
6. Chiquitita 13. Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)
7. The Day Before You Came 14.

POPCORN BREAK.....

For some reason nobody wanted to put out ABBA records in 1985..

ABBA's 1986 Reunion

TIVIDSHAMBO (Swedish TV only 1986)
The only public reunion of ABBA in which they actually sang was for the taping of Stig's song "TIVIDSHAMBO' for a Swedish TV special on January 16, 1986 . The song is basically Benny on accordion, Bjorn on guitar and everybody singing lead together in a somewhat rough fashion. The roughness of the recording probably explains why it was not released officially even though this is ABBA's
last ever professional singing appearance together. The recording is available only on bootleg.

ABBA-LIVE Rel. August 1986 (but recorded 1977-1981) Available worldwide on CD

This album was brought to you by the letters B and A.
This may be the one original ABBA album that an ABBA fan can do without. LIVE is a very bland album and doesn't take very good advantage of the numerous interesting and unreleased live tracks available.
The resulting mediocre album should not be a surprise since a live album never was something that Benny, Björn or their engineer had much enthusiasm for.
ABBA might have a been a fairly good stage act,but they were flawless as a studio act and it was hard for live recordings of ABBA songs to compete with the studio versions. This was Björn's view but it's the wrong attitude to take if your going to put out a live album.
For the most part there few surprises to be found on the instrumentation here, seldom is it as crisp as the studio versions..
One area where you willl notice some difference is in the keyboards-Benny often strays significantly from studio arrangement partly he doesn't always have all the original instruments at hand, partly because he's too creative not to let some new ideas to slip out.
Strangely, this live album would come out in 1986 during the mid -1980's lull in interest in ABBA. ABBA's live album would not be released in Great Britain and would do poorly in most territories.
The live album draws from three different years 9 songs are drawn from the 1979 world tour. 2 songs were used from 1977 and 3 tracks came from 1981 Dick Cavett Tv special. So thus most of ABBA's career is covered.
.In retrospect,a live album drawn mainly from 1977 Australia shows recorded for ABBA -The Movie would have been a far better choice as the group is far more hungry and enthused and singing more energetic material in 1977 then they are in 1979 or 1981.
ABBA LIVE was the last major ABBA album to be widely available on vinyl. The Cd version included three bonus tracks (MoneyX3, OnX3, Name of the
Game/Eagle).
ABBA LIVE probably has the worst album cover of any of ABBA's original albums. There is no picture of the group on the cover -just a drawing of four incredibly large letters.Rune Soderqvist (ABBA's
steadfast bifocaled album cover designer) must have figured that putting Spandex suits on the cover were in bad taste.

In addition to the ABBA LIVE album there have also been a few other official (if somewhat obscure) releases of live ABBA material,as well as some significant live versions that have been not released officially. There have been suggestions that one day a new live album will be put out, perhaps to replace this one...In the meantime, skip this one get either ABBA-The Movie, or the ABBA -In Concert DVD's.

ABBA-THE HITS 1987,1988,1991 British CD
Released on the British Budget label Pickwick this was a three part CD compilation series of ABBA hits and other famous ABBA tune thingies. Each of three CD's were released separately at separate times.

In 1991,the 3 Cd's were cleverly put together by the Pickwick label into something resembling a box (I think it was paper actually ) and viola !, one of the first (indeed probably the first) ABBA CD box set on CD was brought into the world. The contents of these albums are mostly hits with a few album tracks thrown in, but no rarities.

ABBA-The Best of ABBA Poland 2lp set 1987..

The natives were restless so Poles were finally releasing ABBA again , in this compilation...with a different track listing than previous releases with this title....

ABBA-THE COLLECTION VOL.1 1988 British/Australian CD

Starting to move from lp's to Cd's by now... This were issued on a budget label- The CD versions of these have fewer tracks than the lp versions..

Collection Volume 1 is mostly hits.

ABBA- THE COLLECTION VOL.2 1988 British/Australian 2lp /CD

ABBA The Collection 2 features most of ABBA LIVE as well the Ring Ring album.. This was the first time that many of the RING RING album tracks had seen release in Great Britain, which was one of the many territories not to release the Ring Ring album during the 1970's...

A
BBA-THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL/ABBA- GULD HITS 1988 SWedish/Danish Cassette issue only

In Sweden this collection was called GULD HITS, in Denmark-The Winner Takes It All

This cassette only release may have been called by two different names, but each has the same 14 tracks. Unusually The tracks are all from the 1980's . Supposedly, The versions of "Cassandra" and "Under Attack" featured here are special edits used for TV shows. I sometimes envision that there could have been a ABBA Greatest Hits Volume 3, with songs from Super Trouper, The Visitors and all the 1982 tracks-but it probably woudn't have sold well...anyway this as close as we come to that idea....

ABBA-ABSOLUTE ABBA Late Fall 1988-UK 2CD /2 Lp set

More hits , repackaged in yet another way, Totally hits on this one-covering most of ABBA's career. Issued iin the UK on the Telstar label. There was dancing outbreaks reported in Leeds.

Another hits compilation .A repackagiing of the 1982 album OS GRANDES SUCESSOS DE ABBA , on this version there are four more songs, but some of songs have been edited... They were dancing in Sao Paulo!

ABBA-THE LOVE SONGS- 1989 CD UK

A British and also Australian CD/cassette release brought to you by the fine budget folks at Pickwick. This collection provides the cd debut for two ABBA b-sides "Should I Laugh Or Cry "and "Lovelight " The cover uses a famous "nude above the chest" photo of the ABBETTES on the cover. To further confuse matters, there is also a German music club release with the same title and a differant track listing...
THE LOVE SONGS track listing :

ABBA-The Very Best of ABBA 1989 British Lp or CD

Readers Digest put out this one disc 14 song compilation of ABBA hits.

ABBA-ABBA International 1989 *German CD

Not every ABBA compilation album was stupid, redundant and pointless, there have a been few that actually used good ideas. The idea behind this compilation was to throw in some of ABBA's non-English recordings with some b-sides and hits.

This CD was originated in Germany by Polygram. This CD is no longer available but at the time of it's release it provided the CD debuts for a five of ABBA's rare tracks. About half of the tracks were the usual hits like "Dancing Queen" ,though on a couple of the tracks were shorter edits were used (which at the time of release was more interesting than aggravating) .

This CD has the German versions of "Ring Ring" and Another Town Another Train", The Spanish version of "Chiquitiita", the French Version of "Waterloo" and three non- album B-sides -"Happy Hawaii", "Take A Chance On Me "(live),and "I Wonder (live)'. All of these tracks were not widely available
on Cd at the time.

The original cassette version of this included five additional tracks, one of which was the then hard-to find b-side-""Crazy World". So the record company tries hard, but they lose points for leaving out some of the other foreign language tracks such as the Swedish versions of" Waterloo",Ring Ring and "Honey Honey".

Track listing -Ring ring (German vers.) *Honey Honey, Intermezzo No1/Waterloo(French) *The Visitors/Take A Chance On Me (Live) /Gimme X3/I've Been Waiting for You/Happy Hawaii/SOS/Rock N Roll Band/ *Crazy World/People Need Love/*Mamma Mia/ Wer Im Wartesaal er Liebe Steht(German vers. of Another Town, Another Train/Rock Me/ The Winner Takes it All/ I Wonder (Live ver.) Eagle (edit) *Voulez-Vous/ Dancing Queen/I Have A Dream -*CASSETTE Only tracks

Editors note-the CD doesn't have a copyright date-so I havent been able to confirm the release date. One source says this album was released in 1984. Another source, Ian Cole wrote in passing that it was 1988 . But Carl Magnus Palm, says the CD came out in 1989 so that's what we go with...

Special thanks to my friend, John Branges, who found me this CD!

.ABBA in the 1990's ABBA GOLD and more gold...

With the release of 1992 ABBA GOLD, and success of the 1999 musical MAMMA MIA, ABBA reemerged as a major commercial force and finally received more widespread critical acknowledgment of the merits of their music.

ABBA- HONEY HONEY 1990 German CD

A german reissue of tracks mostly drawn from the Ring Ring album. They were dancing in Bremerhaven..

ABBA- ABBA STORY Fall 1990 French 2CD/2lp set
(another source says this was released 1991)

A 25 track collection mostly of hits covering most of ABBA's career. This appears to be a French only release.

ABBA-THE SONGBOOK - AUSTRALIAN CHART HITS 1990 Australian CD

One of the first ABBA albums not to be issued in Lp-this one actually boast a Cd length of 77 minutes. 20 tracks are featured -all of which were hits in Australia. Thus, the emphasis is on the earlier stuff.

Yes ,to reiterate most of ABBA's Australian hits are included here. ABBA had a lot of hits early on in Australia but did less well after 1978.

Yes, just to pound a dead horse, The entire nation of Australia (except Kylie Minogue) despised ABBA after having being forced to hear "Fernando" again and again and again...

1. Fernando 2. Mamma Mia3. S.O.S 4. Dancing Queen 5. Money, Money, Money 6. I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do 7. Rock Me 8. Ring Ring 9. Waterloo 10. Chiquitita 11. Does Your Mother Know
12. Knowing Me, Knowing You 13. Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) 14. The Winner Takes It All 15. On And On And On 16. The Name Of The Game
4.02 17. Summer Night City18. Hasta Mañana19. Take A Chance On Me 20. The Day Before You Came

ABBA GOLD released September 1992 available Worldwide on CD

This is the biggest selling ABBA album. GOLD was recently certified to have sold 20 million copies worldwide. It is the only internationally available single CD collection of all the group's most successful hits. It was released when Polydor bought the worldwide rights to ABBA's music from Polar Music International . Polydor got lucky since a second wave of interest in ABBA was occuring right when they released the collection.. Of course, considering how popular ABBA was originally, it would be surprising if they couldn't sell a lot of copies of a well markerted single disc greatest hits album . Even the USA has warmed to this CD to the tune of three million copies. GOLD received a belated release in the US in 1993.

ABBA GOLD had it's own second wave of sales during 1999's 25th year since Waterloo celebrations. Remarkably, in 1999 the album hit No 1 in Britain and other territories seven years after its release.

The observant will notice that on the original cover of this CD that the fontsize and placement of the letters in ABBA's trademark logo has been subtly altered. The use of the crown over the logo was a bit of added touch , that aimed to imply that ABBA was a classy, regal majestic band, and not a chessy, tasteless, commercial band.

Oh, and by the way, how is this as an album? It's not a bad compilation, with 19 songs the collection is fairly generous .The emphasis on this CD is a bit overly much on the 1976 -1980 period, all but 4 of the 19 songs come from this time, The main objection to the album is it tends to further the misnomer that ABBA was solely a singles group. ABBA experts also tend to not care much for John Tobler's liner notes (recent remastered versions now feature more authritative notes by Carl Magnus Palm).

1. Dancing Queen 2. Knowing Me, Knowing You 3. Take a Chance on Me 4. Mamma Mia 5. Lay All Your Love on Me 6. Super Trouper 7. I Have a Dream 8. The Winner Takes It All 9. Money, Money, Money 10. S.O.S. 11. Chiquitita 12. Fernando 13. Voulez-Vous 14. Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) 15. Does Your Mother Know 16. On Of Us 17. The Name of the Game 18. Thank You for the Music 19.Waterloo

ABBA-Oro 1992 (original 10 track version) Later made Available on CD in revamped 15 track version

Seemingly, the Spanish version of ABBA Gold.( In Spanish ORO means Gold)

In reality, this is just a reissue with a different cover of GRACIAS POR LA MUSICA. GRACIAS only featured Spanish versions of some of ABBA hits. The songs were chosen
were the ones that seemed to work best in Spanish . The vocals were recorded in 1979 and 1980. The ten tracks are in a different r unning order than on GRACIAS.
The cover design is Black on Gold instead of Gold on Black as on ABBA GOLD. ORO was reissued in late 1999 with five additional tracks, and a new cover.

Original 1992 track listing prior to the reissue...

1. Fernando 2. Chiquitita 3. Gracias Por La Musica 4. La Reina Del Baile 5. Al Andar 6. Dame! Dame! Dame! 7. Estoy Sonando 8. Mamma Mia 9. Hasta Manana 10. Conociendome, Conociendote

MORE ABBA GOLD rel June 1993 worldwide

This is a very listenable collection. Here are 13 of the hits that didn't fit on ABBA Gold, 4 interesting ABBA album tracks, two B-sides,and one never before released track - "I Am the City "(rccorded in 1982). Indeed ,This album has 4 of the 6 -1982 songs on it. 12 of the 20 tracks are from 1979-1982.

This album was originally going to be more of a rarities/fan request project, that would feature more B-sides and unreleased tracks such as"Just Like That'. But Polygram apparently decided to go instead with track lineup with more familiar tracks Not surprisingly, MORE ABBA GOLD didn't sell nearly as well as ABBA Gold... It has even gone out of print in some territrories but has been reissued in 1999 in some territories ,with a different song lineup, new liner notes and some longer song edits. It has a white cover in contrast to ABBA GOLD 's black cover. The Spanish album MAS ORO has a similar color scheme to
More ABBA Gold but obviously a different song lineup .

The original version of MORE GOLD had liner notes by UK ABBA press officer John Tobler, but the recent remastered editions has liner notes by Carl Magnus Palm.On The recent Australian remaster edition the locals threw out "Cassandra" and "Lovelight".

In most territories this album has gone out of print again- If thats the case-"I am The City," has again become harder to find, since it was compiled on one of studio album remasters...

Like ABBA GOLD, this album was also made available in a 2lp set in some places.

Track listing:

 1. Summer Night City,1979 GREATEST HITS 2

ABBA-MAS ORO 1993 American /Latin American CD Out of print

The cover is designed to imitate MORE ABBA GOLD but as on ORO few of the songs match between MAS ORO and it's English counterpart..This CD features the remaining Spanish language tracks (Ring Ring, Slipping Through My fingers, "Happy New Year",
" Andante,Andante" and "When All Is Said and
Done") All five of these tracks were recorded around the time of their English counterparts (unlike the songs on ORO ). To fill up the rest of the space , Polydor
included English versions of five other
songs that had been available in Spanish versions on ORO. This has been phased out in the 2000's when the expanded version of ABBA ORO was released.

Various Artists-Hit Come Back 1962-1974 German Cd 1993

Various Artists-Die Deutche Single Hitparade 1974 German CD 1993

These two various artists albums were the first place you could find the German version of "Waterloo" on CD..

ABBA-The ABBA Collection 1993 4 Cd Australia & The Netherlands Out of print

The same album was re-released in 2004 as the ULTIMATE COLLECTION...

PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT 1994 internationally released Soundtrack CD.

This dramatic comedy about a intinerent troop of Austrailian drag queens is a charming film that incorporates the music of ABBA. The music of ABBA plays a slightly lesser role than it does in Muriel's Wedding.

ABBA-Thank You For the Music 4cd set 1994 Available worldwide

The long awaited box set (or in actuality book set) was released after ABBA GOLD proved that were a stlll a handful people (not many mind you, just a privileged few) willing to spend money on ABBA records.
B&B , who were typically ignorant of the fans were skeptical that any one would want to buy a ABBA box set.

More significantly, B&B were hesitant to release previously unreleased material. However, a trip to the vaults reminded them that many of the unreleased songs merited official release.
So the typical box set formula was followed-combine hits , album tracks , rarities
into one big smorgasbord. Almost half of ABBA's official output was was on this box. 66 tracks on four Cd's. The first three CD's are chronological. All the songs on the firstthree CD's had been released before in some form or the other(though the mix of "Summer Night City" includes the elegant intro that had been cut out prior to release)
ABBA's non-album b-sides are treated with respect. ,most of those can be found on the box. They are spread throughout all four CD's.The Box set's centerpiece is the 14 song "ABBA Undeleted Medley".B&B were wary
of giving these songs official sanction cost hey didn't regard them as finished, polished material. In a way, B&B are correct some of the songs seem to work well in this medley format. Most of this material is listenable, ABBA music always has
hooks. Probably the best song on the medley is the lovely folk medley-Hamlet
III which is featured in two versions. Two songs, "Just A notion" and "just Like
That" don't seem to benefit from being put in the medley-they are too truncated compared to the unreleased versions. It's obvious that B&B were having problems
with "Just Like That" .they tried different approaches to the song-and all were good but none was just right. The version of JLT
on the box set is a just snippet of a longer Sax version. The full length Sax version doesn't seem to develop the full potential of the song.
Two never before released song were released in their entirety. "Dreamworld"
is listenable but not overwhelming, whereas
The Spanish sounding"Put On Your White Sombrero" is quite good ,sung with character by Frida. It seems strange that
this song didn't make it least make it onto a B-side. The rest of CD Four features 3 foreign language versions of famous ABBA songs,
a b-side, and 4 songs originally released by Björn and Benny.

The liner notes to the box set are lengthy
with essays by Fred Bronson and Jon Tobler.
ABBA memorabilia is pictured and some
of Björn's original lyrics are reproduced.
The best part of the liner notes is Carl
MAgnus Palm's song commentary.

As a whole the box set is pretty good,
it could have better, but it could have been
far worse.

Agnetha, Benny, Björn and Frida-Pa Svenska 1994 Swedish CD Limited availibility

This is as close as we get to an ABBA Swedish language album. This 18 song compilation features songs by Agnetha,Björn and Benny, Frida and ABBA. All of the songs date from 1970 to 1976.
Although PA SVENSKA was first released in 1994 it is really the only multiple artist compilation of the Pre- ABBA years .Polar never tried to do anything like this
in the 1970's There are six ABBA songs here-the Swedish versions of "Waterloo",
Ring Ring" and "Honey Honey' . Also, there
is Frida's solo Swedish version of "Fernando" and Agnetha's solo version of "SOS". ABBA didn't do Swedish versions of any of their later hits. A sixth song, "Ah Vilka Tider' is also credited to Agnetha, Björn,
Benny, and Annifrid. This song like Björn and Benny's "Att finnas till",and
"En Karusell" (a Swedish version of "Merry Go Round are only available on this Cd.
There are four PRE-ABBA Agnetha song here, all of which are available elsewhere
on CD. These songs all seem to have at least one of the other ABBA members
on them-notice the ABBA sound on the the chorus to "Drom ar Drom och Saga
Saga".Two of Frida's solo songs are available on CD only here. These would be both sides of Frida's 1972 single "Man Vill Leva lite Dessmellan /"Ska Man Skratta Eller Grata" single two songs seemingly written by Italians but translated by Stig.

This album is subtitled- Stikkan Anderson picks Polars Pearls. So in theory ,Stig made the track selections. Three songs were chosen from Frida's FRIDA ENSAM album these are " Fernando" of course ",Som en Sparv" and "Vill Du lana en man" (The Most Beautiful Girl/Guy In the World ) . Why did Stig pick the worst song (The Most Beautiful Girl...)from the FRIDA ENSAM and put it on this CD -the only reason I can think of is that Stig wrote the lyrics and was after the publishing royalties.
The other seventeen songs however, do belong on this Cd. The only problem
with this project is it left many of the PRE- ABBA Björn and Benny tracks uncompiled ,and it really doesn't do
justice to the full depth of the pre-ABBA solo work -you would really need two or three CD's to do that. There are plans to make the remaining uncompiled Bjorn and Benny tracks available on a new edition of their Lycka album...

MURIEL's WEDDING 1994 Internationally released soundtrack CD. The movie premeired in late1994 but the soundtrack came out in 1995 in most places...

This music of ABBA is intregal to this movie. The main character of Muriel played by Toni Collette is among other things an ABBA fan, and at least five ABBA songs are featured in the movie. ABBA is not entirely portrayed in a positive light. The movie sort of implies that losers listen to ABBA.The soundtrack leaves out "Fernando" and Mamma Mia" both of which are featured prominently in the movie. The writer of this movie actually went to great lengths to get ABBA to approve of the use of their songs....

ABBA-ABBA 3cd Boxset Australia 1995

This set features 3 already released albums packaged together-Voulez-Vous, Super Trouper and Arrival.

ABBA -American CD issues 1995

Polydor issued or finished issuing it's CD versions of ABBA studio albums in the American market . This was the first time most of ABBA's studio albums were released on CD in America. When Atlantic had ABBA's USA record contract in the 1980's they had issued only ABBA's two Greatest Hits albums and Super Trouper on CD...

These CD had no bonus tracks, and no liner notes....and were replaced by the first American remastered versions of ABBA's album in 1999.

ABBA-MASTER SERIES Internationally released CD Released between 1996 and 1998 in various territories..

Kind of a pointless compilation though this one mixes lesser known tracks with a few hits....

ABBA-The music Still Goes on 1996 Australian/German 'Dutch CD

Issue by Spectrum/Karusell this a selection of lesser hits and album tracks ,but no -B-sides or rarities. It was issued also as part of three CD set. This has sort of a white cover-and strangely designed ABBA logo..

4. When I Kissed The Teache\5. If It Wasn't For The Nights \6. As Good As New \

ABBA-The Danish Collection 1996 ?CD

This is The Music Still Goes On with a a different title ,and a black cover, albeit the cover is also similar to The music Still Goes on. From what I have seen there are not too many Danish -only ABBA releases...

ABBA-Collection Series 1996 Australian CD

This is similiar to The Music Still Goes on

as the title implies that ABBA is one just one of many artists included in a series of CD's...

ABBA: Interview Disc & Fully Illustrated Book   1996 European Book/CD

This was issued by Sound And Media Limited and seems to similiar to other CD sized books about music stars. The book is written by Nina Rasmussen. Neither the book or the interview CD are that interesting, the interview features mainly Bjorn.  The CD has a picture on it.

ABBA -Forever Gold 1996 2cd set Various territories

This couples ABBA Gold and More ABBA gold into one box.. One version of this released in Australia had a bonus CD with three tracks. This CD set also seems to have been subject to reissue...There is also a European 2CD set called Double Must that does the same thing.

ABBA-Greatest Hits 39 Grandes Exitos 1996 or 1998 Venezuelan 2CD set

This release also couples ABBA Gold and More ABBA gold into one box.. But instead of calling it Forever Gold-the Spanish speaking folks in Caracas called it 39 Grandes Exitos...Yes, the word for "hit" in Spanish is "exitos".

ABBA-The first remastered CD's Series 1997 European territories, but not USA

All of ABBA's studio albums were reissued in this first remastered Series (even though the non-remastered versions were still available). The Cd's in the remastered series featured bonus tracks (on some but not all of the Cd's ), some new rather Brit-centric liner notes by John Tobler and something like remastered sound. These improvements were carried out with a certain sloppiness, but at least somebody tried. ABBA's original studio albums were finally getting some attention.
As is typical of late 1990's CD issues the remastered CD's have a clear plastic
spine. The clear plastic spine has "ABBA-The Remasters" written on the all the CD's .
None of the bonus tracks were unreleased songs, they were simply some of the relevant
songs from ABBA B-sides or other sources that hadn't made it on to the original studio albums.

Naturally many of the relevant rarities & b-sides were left off. For example, none of the early rare B&B/ABBA tracks were added to RING RING or WATERLOO.

Nothing was added to THE ALBUM, , and "Cassandra' was rather strangely left off THE VISITORS. Still,The Visitors, and Super Trouper benefit greatly from having bonus tracks added to them.

The CD's would be remastered yet again more effectively in 2001.

ABBA- Double up 1997 Australian 2cd set

A Polydor two Cd set featuring ABBA's 1975 album and Arrival.. IT utilizes the 1997 Australian remasters for this purpose.

ABBA-LOVE STORIES- Fall 1998 Available on CD in a variety markets

Nothing new here! Available on CD in a variety markets. This is the most serious and recent attempt to issue a ABBA " love song " of "ballad /slow song" collection.. But, Unlike many previous attempts at an ABBA love Cd ,there are no -B-sides or solo tracks.

The title implies that ABBA's songs tell stories ,which is a bit of a oversell. ABBA really were not much good at doing songs about finding true love, many of their best songs were about breakups, or nothing at all.

Nice cover on this one- They used a lovely photo
from the ARRIVAL era, This wasn't released in the USA.
1. 1.Fernando 10. Eagle
2. The Name Of The Game 11. Slipping Through My Fingers
3. Chiquitita 12. My Love, My Life
4. The Winner Takes It All 13. Our Last Summer
5. I Have A Dream 14. Like An Angel Passing Through My Room
6. The Day Before You Came 15. I Wonder (Departure)
7. One Of Us 16. I Let The Music Speak
8. Andante, Andante 17. The Way Old Friends Do
9. One Man, One Woman

ABBA-The Collection Fall 1998 Available on American CD..
Instead of Love Stories ,America got this even more pointless
collection of about a dozen songs, all of which were easily available elsewhere, They
recycled a photo from The LALOM/ONX3 single for the cover.

ABBA-The Remastered Series US March 1999

The remastered series CD versions of
WATERLOO,RING RING, ABBA,ARRIVAL, THE ALBUM, VOULEZ VOUZ, SUPER TROUPER, THE VISITORS and LIVE were released in the USA,
once again long after the rest of the world, and when they came out they had no bonus tracks, partly because American song royalities rules of the time discouraged additional tracks on CD's. The American remaster I bought ,THE ALBUM
had no liner notes , no lyrics and no"ABBA members posed at night" photo. Guess,I
better hold onto my LP. The situation was sort of rectified in the 2001 remasters which finally brought remasters with bonus tracks to America.

Another ABBA reunion...but not on record..1999

After the demise of ABBA, A,B,B & F could found in the same room only a few private occasions, the last time they actually sang together was for Gorel Hanser's 50th birthday party in 1999. Gorel is the former VP of Polar Music. At the party for Mrs. Hanser A,B,B & F sang
a old standard called "Med En Enkel Tulipan' (With a Single Tulip).
B&B also wrote a minor tribute to Gorel called Briggens Blåögda Blonde Kapten performed by a choir that translated from the Swedish to English would be called "Briggens' Blue eyed Captain" . As far, as we know neither song was
recorded for the benefit of bootleggers. The second song however can be found in an instrumental studio version on the album Benny Andersson's Orkester. ABBA would reunite again in 2004 for a the premiere of Mamma Mia in Stockholm.

ABBA-CLASSIC ABBA -The Universal Masters Collection- 1999 CD

ABBA-THE SINGLES COLLECTION 1972-1982
Limited edition 29 Cd set made in Germany.
Released April 1999.

ABBA for the independently wealthy. This is a limited edition box set of 29 ABBA's singles as
they were released in Germany. This is based on a similar vinyl single box set of German singles released in the 1980's. This set is also known as the Tin Biscuit Box set because
that's what the actual box looks like.)
This new CD version was released in April 1999 to celebrate the 25 the anniversary of ABBA's Eurovsion win. That's explains why the bonus CD is a one track CD of "Waterloo " (Swedish version),thus all four version of "Waterloo"
are included. All the tracks have been remastered,
and are presented in their full lengths . (The box offers up the first appearance on CD for the full-length version of "Lovelight".
The original sometimes quite cheesy German
45 picture sleeves are reproduced on the CD sleeves. The set included some liner notes
by Carl Magnus Palm . There is absolutely no
new material here. Save your money and give
it to your favorite charity. Oh you know you want this-resist, resist.

ABBA-MORE ABBA GOLD September 1999

The strange Australian reisssue . It is remastered
(good), has a liner notes by Carl Magnus Palm
(good) and has a altered track listing (a good and a bad thing.).

Instead of I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do Ring Ring, . and the two b-sides Lovelight ,B-sid we find in there place .THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC, ..I have A Dream, and . Super Trouper,

It's not clear why Lovelight 1979 ,B-side 17. Cassandra would be taken out, but I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do and Ring Ring, are on the AUSTRALIAN VERSION OF ABBA GOLD.

So there was no point in having them on the Australian MORE ABBA GOLD

25 Jaar Na Waterloo deel 2 September 1999 Dutch CD

A Dutch only release. This is a one CD "Best of" compilation set. This has remastered tracks and features ABBA lesser hits and some album tracks. They were dancing in Lelystad!

This is the followup to the highly successful 25 JAAR NA WATERLOO Cd issued earlier in the year.

ABBA-The ORIGINALS October 1999 British 3cd set

A three disc repackaging of ABBA's 1974 studio album-WATERLOO,
andThe compilation albums THE MUSIC STILL GOES ON, as well as THE VOICE
OF ABBA. They must have had overstock in the
warehouse. The same repackaging was released in Germany earlier in the year
.As you may remember THE VOICE OF ABBA is actually an Agnetha/Frida solo compilation....

ABBA-Waterloo/Megamix single November 1999

A remix single-god forbid! From, what I understand not a particularly effective remix.

ABBA"-Happy New Year" single,

Both ABBA and the A*Teens released this song as a single to celebrate the millenium.
ABBA's single is just simply a reissue of
their 1980 track from the SUPER TROUPER album.

. Andante, Andante ,Thank You For The Music or Ring Ring (German version) Angeleye
s were used as B-side's in various countries.

 ABBA in the 2000's

ABBA's popularity continued unabated in the new milennium as the musical Mamma Mia traveled the world, unceasingly!

ABBA's early 1993 Spanish language compilation,ORO was rereleased in 2000 with a new black cover with the signeratures of the group.

This new version was remastered and includes as bonus tracks the five additional

Spanish language songs first compiled on MAS ORO. ("Ring Ring"," Slipping Through My Fingers','Happy New Year' 'Andante,Andante' and 'When All Is Said and
Done"). Thus this is now the essential Spanish language ABBA recording to buy.

ABBA-20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection September 2000 USA CD

Part of a new series of greatest hits albums put out by Universal. Various artists are featured in this series- ABBA merely being one of them. The disc is logically chosen, if a bit ungenerous. You can get all the same songs except for I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do on ABBA Gold. The track listing includes 11 of ABBA 's 14 American Top 40 hits. (The exceptions being Honey,Honey, Does Your Mother Know and When All is Said and Done). This album actually went Gold in the USA, impressive for a compilation album. The CD sold well mainly because the album was often displayed with the other artists in the "2o century masters" series...Oh and that Mamma Mia musical helped moved units too..

ABBA -S.O.S.: Best of Abba -January 2001 Japanese CD.

This is a very successful new single CD compilation released only in Japan. This release reached #3 on the Japanese charts.

ABBA-The Remastered CD's Series /Limited Edition Digipaks June 2001 24 bit Digitally remastered Available in many territories.

FEATURING BONUS TRACKS, EXTENDED LINER NOTES, LYRICS AND NEW PHOTOS.

In mid-2001, in yet another victory for creative repackaging, a new series of remasters were issued in many territories. The most obvious change was a recentering of the the titles on some of the covers as well as higher quality images and
clearer lettering and titles. The titles bring back the authentic ABBA logo font (News Gothic Bold). Of great interest to collectors , as well ,is the the addition of new liner notes by Carl Magnus Palm and photos. A slightly different selection of Bonus tracks are included on some of these CD's than on the previous remasterings. As a whole, an intelligent, if rather soon re- refurbishing of the ABBA catalog. (Yes,this whole thing begs the question as to why the reissues were not done correctly the last time.) ABBA's label ,Universal views these discs as a sort of the definitive revamping of the original eight studio albums. These editions have also been released in America, marking the first time

that bonus tracks have been added to the American versions of the ABBA catalogue.

The CD's have been issued in the standard jewel box versions, but also in what are called digipak versions. A Digipak is like a booklet, with no plastic outside; it's more attractive, but less durable. With Digipak's the CD's tend to fall out and the cover gets dinged. The digipaks are said be a limited edtion, though I still see them....

ABBA's label ,Universal views these discs as a sort of the definitive revamping of the original eight studio albums. The most obvious change was a recentering of the the titles on some of the covers as well as higher quality images and clearer lettering and titles. The titles once again utilize the authentic ABBA logo font (News Gothic Bold). Though it seems strange to recenter the titles if you trying to be authentic.. Also of interest to collectors ,is the the addition of new liner notes by Carl Magnus Palm and new photos. A slightly different selection of Bonus tracks are included on some of these CD's than on the previous remasterings. As a whole, an intelligent, if rather soon re- refurbishing of the ABBA catalog. This series was also been released unaltered in the USA in November 2001; and was released on a limited edition vinyl Lp's in Sweden.

ABBA-RING RING 2001 -Remastered Edition CD & Limited Edition Digipak

Yet another track lineup for this album. This is the first time a significant number of bonus tracks are included. on the RING RING CD. The bonus tracks are two Björn leads "Merry Go Round", "Santa Rosa" and the Swedish version of "Ring Ring". "Santa Rosa" is a shitty record and should have been left unrevived.

1. Ring Ring; 2. Another Town, Another Train; 3. Disillusion; 4. People Need Love; 5. I Saw It In The Mirror; 6. Nina, Pretty Ballerina; 7. Love Isn't Easy (But It Sure Is Hard Enough); 8. Extra tracks: 13. Merry-Go-Round; 14. Santa Rosa; 15. Ring Ring (Bara du slog en signal)

ABBA- WATERLOO-Remastered Edition 2001 CD and Limited edition Digipak

This remastered., redesigned edition includes new liner notes by Carl Magnus Palm .The track listing was reshuffled back to it's original intended order(some versions of this album were released with tracks in the wrong order. "Watch Out" now comes ahead of "What About livingston". The three bonus tracks are the US remix of Ring Ring and the Swedish versions of "Waterloo" and "Honey Honey". This is the first major appearance on CD for US remix version of "Ring Ring " which was actually released in 1974. ("Ring Ring" appeared on the WATERLOO Lp in the USA because there was no release of the RING RING Lp in the USA during the 70's.).

. 1. Waterloo; 2. Sitting In The Palmtree; 3. King Kong Song; 4. Hasta Mañana; 5. My Mama Said; 6. Dance (While The Music Still Goes On); 7. Honey, Honey; 8. Watch Out; 9. What About Livingstone; 10. Gonna Sing You My Lovesong; 11. Suzy-Hang-Around;

ABBA-ABBA (Remastered version) 2001 CD and limited edition Digipak

Includes new liner notes by Carl Magnus Palm and two bonus tracks. This album clearly has the two least artistically worthwhile bonus tracks.

Some of the prior CD editions of this album rather oddly had five added tracks drawn from the RING RING and WATERLOO albums, this is no longer is the case.

1. Mamma Mia; 2. Hey, Hey Helen; 3. Tropical Loveland; 4. SOS; 5. Man In The Middle; 6. Bang-A-Boomerang; 7. I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do; 8. Rock Me; 9. Intermezzo no. 1; 10. I've Been Waiting For You; 11. So Long;

extra tracks: 12. Crazy World; 13. Medley: Pick A Bale Of Cotton/On Top Of Old Smokey/Midnight Special (new bonus tracks)

ABBA-ARRIVAL (Remastered version) 2001 CD and Digipak limited edition.

The latest remastering includes liner notes by Carl Magnus Palm, photos and 2 bonus tracks

1. When I Kissed The Teacher; 2. Dancing Queen; 3. My Love, My Life; 4. Dum Dum Diddle; 5. Knowing Me, Knowing You; 6. Money, Money, Money; 7. That's Me; 8. Why Did It Have To Be Me; 9. Tiger; 10. Arrival;

extra tracks: 11. Fernando; 12. Happy Hawaii (new bonus track)

ABBA-THE ALBUM 2001 (Remastered) CD and limited edition Digipak

Includes new liner notes by Carl Magnus Palm and for the first time one, yes, count it one bonus track! "Get On the Carousel" A key ABBA rarity and the fourth song from the mini-musical was left off "The Album" once again-but there does not appear to appear a finished studio version of that song.

1. Eagle; 2. Take A Chance On Me; 3. One Man, One Woman; 4. The Name Of The Game; 5. Move On; 6. Hole In Your Soul; "The Girl With The Golden Hair" - 3 scenes from a mini-musical - 7. Thank You For The Music; 8. I Wonder (Departure); 9. I'm A Marionette

extra track: 10. Thank You For The Music (Doris Day mix) (new bonus track)

ABBA-Voulez-Vous (Remastered) 2001 CD and limited edition Digipak

Includes liner notes by Carl Magnus Palm and three bonus tracks. Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! is now here rather than on the Super Trouper remaster. The titles are recentered on the cover. Adding "Summer Night City " and "Gimme Gimme Gimme" makes this one of the great disco albums of all time. 1. AS Good as New; 2. Voulez-Vous; 3. I Have A Dream; 4. e; 5. The King Has Lost His Crown; 6. Does Your Mother Know; 7. If It Wasn't For The Nights; 8. Chiquitita; 9. Lovers (Live A Little Longer); 10. Kisses Of Fire

extra tracks: 11. Summer Night City; 12. Lovelight; 13. Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight (new bonus track)

ABBA-Super Trouper (Remastered 2001) CD and limited edition Digipak

Features new liner notes by Carl Magnus Palm and two bonus tracks. So now, the words Super Trouper and ABBA are on the bottom, of the cover. Yup that's worth 18 dollars.

1. Super Trouper; 2. The Winner Takes It All; 3. On And On And On; 4. Andante, Andante; 5. Me And I; 6. Happy New Year; 7. Our Last Summer; 8. The Piper; 9. Lay All Your Love On Me; 10. The Way Old Friends Do;

Extra tracks: 11. Elaine; 12. Put On Your White Sombrero

ABBA-THE VISITORS 2001 CD and limited edition Digipak

Lars Larsson's photo on the cover is slightly different than the original cover. Apparently, Universal had trouble finding the exact original negative.

Features new liner notes by Carl Magnus Palm and four bonus tracks. "Cassandra" replaces ""You Owe Me One' as a bonus track. "Cassandra " had been inexplicably left off the original remastering of this album .It's not clear, why we can't have both tracks. Hey, and while your at it throw in" I am the City" and "Just Like That" "as well. You know, why not just make a separate CD for the six 1982 tracks.

1. The Visitors; 2. Head Over Heels; 3. When All Is Said And Done; 4. Soldiers; 5. I Let The Music Speak; 6. One Of Us; 7. Two For The Price Of One; 8. Slipping Through My Fingers; 9. Like An Angel Passing Through My Room;

Extra tracks: 10. Should I Laugh Or Cry; 11. The Day Before You Came; 12. Cassandra (new bonus track) 13. Under Attack

ABBA-THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION October 2001 Worldwide CD release

Intended by Polydor as it's definitive 2 disc ABBA compilation.

The focus here is on ABBA's A sides . No purely non hit album tracks are included.. Since virtually all of ABBA 's A-sides s are included this is a more chronilogically balanced compilation than the one CD disc -ABBA Gold.

Two rarities are included the heavy 1974 mix of "Ring Ring" and the extended US DJ remix of "Voulez-Vous".This set features liner notes by Carl Magnus Palm. This 2cd set has also been released as part of A sound and vision set.

ABBA-MUSIC BOX 2002 Russian CD

ABBA-MUSIC BOX 2002 Russian CD

ABBA-Gold Ballads 2002 Russian CD

ABBA -MUSIC LEGEND 2002 Russian 2cd set

4 ABBA compilations supposedly put out in Russia in 2002..The double CD set includes a lot stuff from ABBA's Thank You For The Music box., shuffled around in interesting way....Around this time also their was fairly wide availabilty of a bootleg Russian CD-R that featured most of ABBA's output , as well as some ABBA solo material..

ABBA-THE NAME OF THE GAME -British CD October 2002

Another pointless, though ,cheap, budget priced collection of some ABBA's best known songs coupled with a few album tracks.

Waterloo, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!, Rock Me, Love Isn't Easy, Gonna Sing You My Lovesong, SOS, When I Kissed The Teacher, The Name Of The Game, Hole In Your Soul, Why Did It Have To Be Me, On And On And On, Lay All Your Love On Me, The Visitors, Kisses Of Fire, When All Is Said And Done, Ring Ring

ABBA -ON AND ON -AMERICAN CD 2003

Pretty much the same album as THE NAME OF THE GAME, only In America they released this and called it ON and ON. Apparently they couldn't afford the other "and On"??? Does anybody read this shit-why are we why are there lilacs in the Spring and Football in the Fall? Why indeed?

THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL 2002 DVD Release Swedish/British video production . InternationalTv special /VHS/DVD

Chris Hunt's intelligent TV documentary was produced with the cooperation of the members of ABBA and thus features some surprisingly candid exclusive interviews with Frida, Benny and Bjorn. As a whole the documentary is quite good-though one could do without some of the reverent testimonials. One also could do with less promotional material for the musical- MAMMA Mia. Another disappointment is Agnetha's appearances which are merely her reading from her biography-"As I Am". The documentary includes snippets of a number of rare ABBA tracks and performancesThere are number of interesting moments on this special by my favorite is when they show an aerial view of the Stockholm Archiplego coupled with an instrumental piano solo by Benny. This was released throughout the world as a broadcast TV documentary. Interestingly, different edits were used in different countries. This documentary is available on VHS video in most places and on DVD in some places.

ABBA GOLD DVD version. Internationally released DVD. 2003

A DVD version of this video was released in mid 2003. It features the nineteen songs found on the VHS version as well as three bonus clips

ABBA-Our Last Video- July 2004 International DVD/video release

ABBA thought to have some minor reunion to mark the 30th anniversary of their Eurovision breakthough A near reunion nearly occured at the fifth anniversary performance of Mammia Mia in London's West End. It was hoped that Agnetha might induced to come out of hiding due to the need to promote her album. Instead only Bjorn , Benny and Frida showed up, on stage in a semi-reunion. Frida had attended performances before but had never gotten up on stage with B&B before....

All four members of ABBA finally agreed to appear briefly and separately in a short but clever and entertaining video clip broadcast during the 2004 Eurovision song contest...It originally been hoped that the four members might agree to make a non-singing appearence together, but instead this near reunion was agreed to....The video features ABBA puppets and ABBA song references, The Dvd features the video , a making of the video segment, and some of the full original ABBA videos that were mentioned in the "Our FINAL VIDEO."DVD Contains fourty minutes of exciting videos-ooh what a a b argain....

ABBA- SUPER TROUPERS documentary International Release DVD September 2004

THE DVD is TV documentary of ABBA narrated by English record producer Pete Waterman which includes lots of material about Mamma Mia fifth anniversary ..The documentary is Certainly quite well done, and very interesting but there is considerable rehashing of material from the equally good THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL documentary . Essentially THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL has been revised and redone with lots of new interviews with Bjorn and Bjorn a lot of new Mamma Mia, material, and some new narration by Pete Waterman...

Best parts of the video-some clips not seen in previous ABBA bios-notably-a sexy version of "So Long', a full length version of "People Need Love,, "A longer clip of Agnetha doing Jesus Christ Superstar, a outake clip of The recording of "Dancing Queen' and all the new Agnetha interviews where she is often talks in Swedish..

The worst parts of the special are Pete Waterman -he is pretty embarrasing/ There is a serious factual error towards the end when it is stated that ABBA announced they were breaking up in 1981 (ABBA never annouced they were breaking up and they worked together till late 1982.)A horrible omission is that There is no mention in documentary of ABBA manager, Stig Anderson in the documentary -which seems quite petty, and refrerences to Kristina and Chess are quite non-existent...

ABBA -ABBA 18 Hits  Swedish CD May 2005

This is a new  Swedish markert only compilation  which features all four of ABBA tracks in Swedish as well as 14 other hits... Apparently this CD sort of replaces the 1990's out of print Polar Music compilation called PA SVENSKA which is the only previous CD to have all four Swedish language ABBA tracks....PA SVENSKA is better cos it had harder to find solo tracks .

A international release of this is also going to be issued with a different track listing...

ABBA-THE MOVIE 2DVD set September 2005 release , Also released in single DVD version. This will be playable on Pal and NCPS.

Finally a re-release of ABBA-The Movie. ABBA's 1977 cinema theatre release. It has never released on DVD.
It had out of print on video...

The Movie
(if you didn't know) is largely a concert film with an amusing if thin story about a Australian dj trying to interview ABBA. The film is directed by Lasse Hallström.  Lasse was the   director of  most of ABBA's videos and would later go on to direct My Life is a Dog, Cider House Rules and many other films.

There are two versions of the movie. The single dvd version has no extras. The 2 DVD version has the film on one disc and bonus features on the second disc. The bonus features are an interview about the film with Lasse Hallström, Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson,  the original ABBA - The Movie trailers; an ABBA - The Album TV commercial and a  picture gallery. Apparently, there were no live outtakes available.

Fan experts complain was is more material that could have be included .

 ABBA-The Complete Studio Recordings 9CD/DVD Release November 7, 2005

They actually clamied that this would be last ABBA release! HA HA!
Following the example of last year's Japanese box set, Polar /Universal have put together a new "complete' box set. This is the first internationally released box set to compile all of ABBA's studio albums... It thus is the official ABBA album with the largest number of tracks....
The audio component features most of ABBA's released recordings including all eight studio albums, b-sides, foreign language recordings, most alternate mixes as well as the rarities that were released after ABBA broke up... The set has two tracks new to Cd- the mono mix of "ON and On And On" previously heard only on  videos, and alternative mix of Waterloo...This set is the first to include Spanish versions as bonus tracks on every one of the eight studio albums.
The major exclusion here is of course, ABBA's live album and the half or dozen other officially released  live tracks..But they are not "STUDIO' recordings.
Naturally,  unreleased studio recordings (like the full version of "Just Like That " or "Nationsang' ) have been not included here either.. Nor does one find private releases like "Sang to Gorel', "Fanfare for a  Ice Hockey Championship".
The DVD set features basically a repackaged version of THE DEFINITIVE CollectionDVD set  on the first  DVD.  the  recent "OUR LAST VIDEO' puppet video is included as a bonus.

A history of ABBA (originally found on the ABBA GOLD DVD  and a short version of the 1981 DICK CAVETT TV special concert is on the second DVD.
There have been complaints from fans that the Dick Cavett segment only has five of the originally aired nine songs-Supposedly, they cant find the other four songs in the archives.
Annoyingly, this will be llimited edition release..Only 25,000 copies were made. .So it wont be around forever..
.

They actually clamied that this would be last ABBA release! HA HA!
