ABBA & ABBA SOLO -RARE , UNRELEASED

Rare and unreleased ABBA tracks..

The Music of Benny Andersson & Bjorn Ulvaeus

FRIDA-RARE DUETS and unreleased recordings

AGNETHA, HOOTENANY SINGERS , HEP STARS, RELATED Artists, ABBA on TV.....

Unlike most of the other pages on this site-the page deals just with songs and not with actual albums. It's a not 100% complete, but it tells you most of what you need to know about hard to find ABBA and ABBA solo stuff...

A list of ABBA's Rare and unreleased tracks..

ABBA'S body of work includes a number of rarities.. A few of the tracks are songs that were released only in Sweden , some were recorded for private use. A few are a important live recordings that never have been officially released, some are songs that simply have never been released..

ABBA didn't actually leave a lot of extra songs "in the can" when recording their albums. Bjorn and Benny never wrote no more than 17 possible songs during the preparation of an album. For most of the their albums there appear to be only a handful of extra tracks, many of which have appeared either as b-sides or were unearthed in 1994 the ABBA box set. What follows is a list of the best known rare and unreleased songs.. Not included are any of the (mostly b-sides) bonus songs found on any of the eight 2002 remastered studio albums, or songs that have never been bootlegged..

Early Rarities  1970-1974

California Here We Come (TV performance by Festfolk, 1970)

Cecelia (Unreleased  track)1972

En Karusell (Swedish version of-Merry Go Round) 1972
Att Finnas Till 1972 (Bjorn and Benny)
Merry Go Round 1972
Ah Vilka Tider b-side to Ring Ring (Swedish vers.)
Ring Ring (German Version)

Wer Im Wartesaal Der Liebe Steht (Another Town, Another Train-German version)
Waterloo French version 1974
Waterloo German version 1974

Ring Ring (various alternate mixes) 1973, 1974

ABBA's early singles included a handful of Swedish, German, and French versions of songs that were also released in English, as well two Bjorn vocals that were only released in Swedish...There was also a rare greetings to Folk park record (not listed) which doesn't include any new material on it...

Outakes from ABBA's 1975 album

Rikki Rock and Roller 1974
Baby 1975
Here Comes Rubie Jamie1974

These early songs we have heard on the box set in truncated versions...

To live With You

recorded around 1975 as a English language version of B&B''s "Lycka"

Outakes from Arrival sessions

Fernando 1975 (swedish demo version)

heard on the boxset

"Dancing Queen" alternate lyric-

This version of "Dancing Queen" has a couple of lines not heard on the original version..It was filmed for a TV special in 1975. It was first seen on a  Swedish TV special about Stig Anderson called Mr. Trendsetter. The clip can be seen on the "The Winner Takes it All" and Super Troupers  DVD's .

Monsieur Monsieur (unreleased) 1976

The early version (and a very interesting version )of My Life, My Love...

The "National" commercial 1976

A new version of "Fernando' that had lyrics trying to sell appliances for an Australian firm called "National". Probably, the only major use of ABBA music in a commercial.

"Funky Feet"

This was written by Bjorn and Benny for the Arrival sessions but never actually  recorded by ABBA, the song was instead given to Svenne and Lotta.

Live outakes 1977

The original live version of Girl With the Golden Hair including..four songs and incidental dialogue and music (unreleased) These versions are significantly different than the final studio versions....

a. Thank You For The Music
b. I wonder
c. I'm A  Marionette
d. Get On the Carousel (unreleased)

I am An A (unreleased) 1977
Swedish Polka (unreleased) 1977
Flexi Mix of four live tracks 1977
I wonder (live b-side ) 1977

Live tracks from 1977 tour, most of which were ignored when it came to compiling ABBA's live album..."I am an A"and "Get on A carousel", are two completely new songs rejected for release by B&B....Both of which are worthy of being released.

Outakes from THE ALBUM

Scaramouche 1977

Take A chance on me (instrumental version)

heard on the boxset

 Outakes from Voulez-Vous sessions
Hamlet 111 1978
Just a Notion 1978
Dream world 1978
Free As A bumble Bee 1978
Crying Over You

Once again, more songs heard only heard on the box set in truncated versions...The Chiquitita Story (Arms of Rosalita) (unreleased) 1978

This mix was put together for use on the box set by Micke Tretow to show the ABBA recording process on the song Chiquitita but this idea was rejected by B&B, You can hear a snippet of this track in the THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL Video...

1979 rarities

Chiquitita (Live at Unicef) 1979

lip sync with live clapping...

Sång till Görel (private release) 1979

Privately released 12 inch single given in June 1979 as a tribute to Polar Vp Ms. Gorel Hanser, and a very good record, worthy of release. the single had no b-side. This track has never released publicly.

Under My sun (unreleased)1979

Infectious memorable but  unfinished song recorded during rehearsels for the 1979 world tour. It was an  alternate version of "Rubber Ball Man'
Rubber Ball Man 1979

This is the more finished ,but still truncated box set version , and the great melody is shot down by some  pretty stupid lyrics.

I'm Still alive (unreleased)
Gammal Fabodpsalm (unreleased)1979
Hole In You Soul (Live)

Summer Night City Live 1979

Live tracks from the 1979 tour, I'm Still Alive was actually a new song written by Agnetha, and Bjorn....Gammal Fabodpsalm is a instumental.

 1980's rarities

Burning My Bridges 1980

box set track

ON AND ON AND ON 1980 Version with additional lyrics

this version was only heard on the promo clip for this song,it can be heard on the 2005 box set.

Nationalsång (unreleased) 1980

The early totally instrumental version of "Anthem" from Chess..
Hovas Vittne 1981
Tiveds Hambo (instrumental version)1981

This two sided record was privately issued in January 1981 This was a tribute record for Stig this time, not as good as "Sang to Gorel" but still listenable. There was also a tribute record done for Stig's wife to Gudrun ,but that is not that interesting...Of course, I am sure Gudrun was quite happy to have it....

Giving A little Bit More 1981

box set track sung by Bjorn....

Fanfare for Ice hockey World Championship '81

A short instrumental fanfare that was released only privately, but also was used as the instrumental prelude to  Dick Cavett meets ABBA special.

Don't Fence Me In (impromptu singing)

Seen on the interview portion of the Dick Cavett meets ABBA special.

Just like that LA la version(1982J

The holy grail of unreleased ABBA records., simply because it's a good record that lies tragically unreleased...

Just like That (sax version)(released in truncated box set version))
You Owe Me One 1982 (on box set)
I am The City 1982 (available on More ABBA gold)

The three of the six `1982 tracks that have not made onto one of the remasters . All great records of course.

Every good man 1983 (unreleased)(CHESS Demo featuring Agnetha)

Not really ABBA, this is a unreleased Chess demo, the only one to feature one of the girls, this is the early version of "Heaven Help My heart" .Sadly, It's hard to imagine this recording ever being released officially because the lyrics are not just filler lyrics....

Tiveds Hambo 1986 (unreleased)Swedish TV recording.

The last time A,B,B, F sang professionally together was on Tv tribute to Stig.

It was a ragged unrehearsed version of an old Stig song.....Touching really....

2. FRIDA-RARE DUETS and unreleased recordings

Frida has recorded over a dozen released duets with various artists, was as well may unreleased recordings -a collection of these tracks would be welcome if perhaps, unlikely....

Many of these are duets she has recorded with other acts can be found on albums by those acts. Some of the rare singles tracks can only be found on those singles many of which were only released in Sweden.

Frida's also has a number of unreleased recordings are mainly drawn from TV appearances. The Essential Stockholm video has
a version of Frida doing the Supremes
song "Baby Love" with the Charlie Norman
Orchestra. Frida also made a series of TV specials from the Grand Hotel in Stockholm in 1982 which included many songs not available elsewhere. Many of these songs can found on a CD issued by ABBAMAIL called TELEVISION. TELEVISION also has her very first appearance on Swedish TV doing "En Ledig Dag" in 1967. Frida also sang some duets in concert with
Marie Frederickson that haven't been released. There at least one track was known to have been left off the SOMETHING's GOING ON album -"Shot Down In Action".

Frida duet with Ratata (" Sa lange Vi Har Haran") is available on Ratata's album called Mellan Dröm Och Verklighet (1987) -as well as on the Swedish complimaton album called Duetter.
Frida's a Capella duet version of "Dancing Queen " done with THE REAL GROUP is available on Varför Får Man Inte Bara Vara Som Man Är? (1994) as well the recent American ABBA tribute album called ABBA-A tribute THE 25th Anniversary Celebration. The list below does not include any of her work with other ABBA members or as part of ABBA.

THE RELEASE OF FRIDA's new video collection FRIDA -THE DVD 1967-2005 provides video documentation of some of the songs listed below as well a number of other filmed rarities

AGNETHA FALTSKOG SOLO

Most of Agnetha's B-sides have been released on to CD somewhere, especially with the release of the recent remasters. Her long hard to find Spanish versions, and b-sides such as "P&B" were compiled on the 2005 remasters. Agnetha's version of " Ljuva Sexital"that is found on Polar Roliga Timme CD " is no longer available...Her many interesting videos are hard to find...

THE HOOTENANNY SINGERS

A lot of the Hootz original albums are not in print, let alone the rare a& b-sides, ep tracks or foreign language tracks. Still, I can't see that there too many interesting rarities to be seeking out..It was would nice to have greater availabilty of some of the songs Bjorn's wrote with the Hootz..

The HEP STARS

All of the tracks on their singles have been compiled onto CD-and most of their 1960's stuff is on Cd, with the exception of their It's Been a Long Long Time which seems to be out of print. Most of the  post- 1969 Hep stars stuff is out of print...

WHOMEVER ELSE-RELATED ARTISTS and Tributes

There are literally hundreds of hard to find records in this category, not that you would really want to hunt most of of this stuff down...Among the most interesting are the 1950's work of Stig Anderson, the soundtrack to the ABBACADABRA French TV special and the various Swedish language covers of ABBA songs..

Felpin's Thoughts

!!!!!
My thoughts on the world at large....

A little while ago  I noticed that somebody had messed with ALPHA-BITS cereal... Somebody decided that it had too much sugar, and decided to make ALPHA-BITS instead with little or no sugar..They wanted make the cereal comparable  to Cheerios -that's what is said on the box... Well CHEERIOS taste pretty good without factory added sugar and they also taste pretty good with a spoonful of sugar from my sugar bowl but these new alpha bits tasted horrible either way-and I had to throw the whole box  away... A few weeks later  I noticed the cereal was totally discontinued from the store....

It reminds me of the fate of the original Carnation Breakfast bars which were a very yummy product found in American stores in the 1970's...
One day Carnation changed the recipe to make it more like a granola bar-and I  stopped buying them. The old bars never came back....

It's Ok to dream, even if your a member of a children's choir..!!!
